Conducted on July 19, 2022, in a Government High School in Bandlamitta, Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, India.
On July 15th, 2022, 3 months after starting my organization, I traveled to India to conduct the first set of projects After a lot of coordination and behind-the-scenes work, we held our first medical camp on July 19th at an underprivileged, under-funded girls’ government school in Ongole, a small city in Andhra Pradesh, India. As it was a menstrual health camp, we were able to teach 400 girls in grades 6-10 about the importance of menstrual health and proper sanitary methods to keep the female reproductive system hygienic while on their menstrual cycle. Most importantly we made sure to emphasize that talking to people they trust about their menstrual cycle is the best way to get help. We played a trivia game with students that consisted of questions about sanitation methods and what to do vs. what not to do when going through the cycle. At the end of the camp, we were able to pass out more than 400 packages of sanitary pads to the girls. After seeing all of the girls learning about the importance of feminine health, I knew that I needed to do more and as children learned more about their bodies and received proper health care, we would be able to allow children to do better in school without having to worry about health barriers.
