Conducted on July 30, 2022, in an orphanage in Ambattur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
My second camp was conducted on July 30th, 2022, as a health screening camp. This took place in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India in Anandam, a home for orphaned children and single parent families. With the help of 15 medical professionals and over 30 volunteers, we were able to provide free health physicals to 250 children in the areas of general health, dental health, and ophthalmology. We were able to find many unknown barriers and address the concerns of many parents who wanted their children to be healthy in order to study to the best of their ability in school. Along with that we were able to provide treatment to many of these barriers. Many common patterns were also found with the health of children in that area. A lot of children were found with improper diets, parasitic intestinal worms, and loss of appetite. A large number of children also had dental issues due to the lack of proper oral hygiene. Some children also suffered from a disability, physical or mental, and some children were also found to have depression, something parents in those areas think is uncommon with children that young. A lot of the health issues identified can be solved in simple steps, but without conducting this camp, would most likely never been identified to start with. We also donated 15,000 Indian rupees to the home in order to help cover the costs of medicine and treatment for some of the children. Overall, in this trip, I was able to help over 650 children improve their health in order to have better quality of education.
